Fitness for Free, Part I

An important area to work on for any level of functioning is physical fitness. The Internet is one of the best resources, especially when it comes to FREE stuff! My current activities of choice: walk/jog, pilates, and yoga.

My walk/jog routines in the past consisted of my own workout mixes on the iPod. It worked. However, some of my favorite songs were not necessarily the best to use for fitness routines, at least in its original recorded state. With a quick search on iTunes, I found a wonderful podcast that had music specifically tweaked for fitness. It is called PODRUNNER and not only is it free, but so well done that I’ll never pay for workout music again. Each weekly workout is 1 hour long, with a set BPM (beats per minute) by some really good electronic/techno music put together by DJ Steve Boyett. I truly get lost in the music. Even though I usually do not use the entire hour for jogging, I can break it up into two 30 minute sessions. I just do my own 5 minute warm up and cool down.

My new favorite, also from DJ Steve, is the PODRUNNER Intervals. This is the best! It has varied BPM and instructs the listener through the walk/jog workout by tones and music. Its only 30 minutes long per workout and a new one comes out weekly. The time and the BPM even change on the length and tempo of walking/jogging. I love it.

Even if you are not an electronic music lover, it is really worth checking into. For one, its free. And secondly, you will be amazed how music made specially for working out really helps keep exercising fresh, fun, and uplifting.

In part II I’ll share some free pilates/yoga resources. Stay tuned.

DY,
